Are you planning to transport your car but wondering if you can put your personal items in it?
The answer is yes!
As a customer, you are allowed to include up to 100 lbs of personal belongings when shipping your car. However, if you exceed this weight limit, you need to inform us, and we will calculate the additional fee for you. The extra fee varies based on the distance between the pick-up and delivery points, so it is best to inform us beforehand to avoid any surprises.
If you are unsure about the weight, you can send us some photos, and we will help you calculate the total weight and provide you with a quotation. It’s always better to be safe than sorry, right?
Now, you may be wondering why you need to pay an extra fee. The reason is that the truck will be heavier, and it will consume more fuel. Moreover, officials in designated stations along the way will check the truck’s weight. In the route from NY to LA, for example, there are more than 20 stations where the truck will be checked. If the truck exceeds the standard weight, the driver will have to pay a fine of $10 for each 100lbs over at each station.
However, you cannot carry all the stuff you want. Loading ramps have a limited capacity, and the driver may refuse to pick up your vehicle if you overload it. To avoid this situation, send us some photos when you ask for a quote, so we can inform our driver. It’s important to note that a heavy load could also damage your car’s suspensions, so it’s best to be careful.
When it comes to personal items, we advise not to leave valuables such as jewelry, expensive watches, or money. Most of our customers carry clothes and small furniture. Unfortunately, we cannot provide any form of insurance for your belongings as no insurance company allows a car carrier to insure anything inside the vehicle. If you want your items to be insured, rely on a postal or courier service.
Where should you place your items? We recommend sealing your items in a box or suitcase and placing them in the trunk. If you place objects on the rear seat, there’s a chance that they may trigger the alarm during transportation. Moreover, it’s better if your items are not visible from outside as drivers rest and sleep in free parking areas where there is a risk of theft. Police may also stop the truck to check the contents of your car.
If you have any further questions, feel free to contact our customer service. We are here to help you make the process of shipping your car and personal belongings as smooth and stress-free as possible. Remember, your satisfaction is our top priority!
