Auto-shipping: how deos the price vary?

With SkyFoxTransport (SFT), more than ten vehicles of various sizes can be transported at the same time, from the largest and most heavy ones to the smallest ones. The dimensions and the model of the vehicles are therefore some of the variables that affect the price of your transportation. Let’s see how the prices for transportation may vary according to the models and the different conditions in which the cars are. We believe that our customers must be informed about how the prices may vary depending on the following factors:

  • distance and dates;
  • type of transport (within the US vs international);
  • size and model of the car;
  • condition of the car (operable vs not operable).

In this article, we will give particular importance to parameters concerning the dimensionsmodels, and condition of the involved vehicle.

For information on the prices for the transport of cars in the US or abroad please visit our website, you can enter a request by feeling out the form on the homepage or you can give us a call and talk with one of our experts.

Do you have to ship your car? What to consider…

As for the transport of cars, you should also know that the prices may vary according to the “tonnage” of the vehicle: the cost for transporting a Fiat 500, for example, cannot be the same as that for transporting a Land Rover. Therefore, when planning and booking your transportation it is important to always specify the make and model of your car, to avoid unpleasant surprises. With that said, cars with an important length like a station wagon, or with width and height like a minivan, will have a higher cost for the shipping service compared to cars with smaller dimensions. The reasons behind that, are that sometimes a vehicle that is too bulky could force the driver to organize an alternative road and to load fewer cars.

What are the vehicle’s conditions?

This is another important parameter that affects the final price of the shipping service: is the car operable? Or, in other words, is the car working? This might sound like a joke, but not all vehicles that we transport are actually in good conditions, and whether your car has been in an accident or has engine problems does influence the price. Remember to carefully check the condition of the car and when requesting for its transportation, from the general to details. Why is that? We will immediately explain it to you: if it is not possible to load the car normally on the car transporter (because not operable), it is necessary to use the winch, a particular tool that drags the car up to the car transporter. The place that your car will occupy during the trip, will be the same at the moment of unloading. Another problem that a non-operable vehicle can present is the position that it must have on the transporter: for our drivers, it is always better when planning their journey that they first pick up the non-running car before the others, so that it can be delivered last. This is to avoid having to load and unload the car several times during the journey, which would represent a considerable waste of time. The planning of the trip is therefore important and the truck driver must therefore be made aware of the real conditions of the car (the driver must be aware of the real condition of the vehicle before picking it up).

The cost of transporting non-operable vehicles may be higher compared to the cost of transporting a normal-functioning car. Approximately between 150 – 200$.

If you want to save money on this, you will need greater flexibility in the collection dates.
